Valve adjusting on the Rabbit, Scirocco, and Jetta 1 requires the use of a special tool to hold the cam followers in the down position in order to remove the shims for replacement. The valve adjusting pliers are then used to remove the shim. Note: The 1.6L and 1.7L engines use a different tool (not shown) than the 1.8L engine becuase of valve spacing. The shim set works on all solid lifter cylinder heads. It contains an assortment of eighteen shims ranging from 3.40mm to 3.85mm in thickness.
